Attaining Perfection is a Process

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit. - Hebrews 6:1-3

No-one is perfect and coming to the Lord is the only way to live in and experience the glory of the Perfection of Jesus Christ. None of us can achieve perfection in and of ourselves. And in reality the walk is actually a process – a walk; a journey. The more time we spend in the knowledge and the presence of the Father, the more we catch a glimpse of and experience that perfection.

We often expect that when we surrender our lives to God we immediately stop doing all the erroneous things we do but I have found this to not be the case. Often we still do those things that we used to do but we fail to get the satisfaction from them that we once used to. Now when we do them we walk away with a sense of remorse and as time progresses we find that we do them far less often.

As we grow we continue to learn more things about the Lord and are able to shift our focus away from our sins and the sins of others. We are less enamored by doctrines and man made practices in an attempt to attain perfection that only Christ can do through us. Once we understand that our lives will be one of continuous repentance, we are set free from feelings of guilt and bondage. Jesus Christ could not love us any more than he already does – He gave his life on the Cross for our sins so that we may have life – life eternal in Him.

So if you are continually repeating the class of coming to the Lord and then backsliding, this message is for you. Accept the work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary. You cannot add to it neither can you take away from it – It is Finished!
