I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus – Philippians 3:14
Even when we face obstacles and difficulty in life, we must make a decision to stick with the plan. It is definitely easier to quit and run away from our issues than it is to face them. When the Apostle Paul uses the word “press”, it seems to mean a task that will take a lot of effort and determination.
It is however important that we understand that when we chicken out in life and take the easy road out of every situation we face, we are consciously or unconsciously aborting God’s plan for our lives. God never promised us a live on flowery beds of ease nor did he promise to take all our difficulties and trials away but he did vow that he will never leave us or forsake us if we stay in the realm of what he has for us to do and where he would have us be.
Anything that would be worth something in the long run will have to be fought for. If you are not a fighter you most likely will be a quitter – the type who scurries away like a sacred animal anytime life throws you a lemon with the phrase “ I can’t cope” written in big bold letters across your forehead. If that describes you, you need to change a lot of that. Strength is mostly effective when it comes from within and it is the kind of strength that can only come from God. Being spiritually strong cannot be achieved in a gymnasium. It is a gift from Almighty God.
So if you are constantly being tossed about, broken down and flung around when circumstances shift in your life, learn from God how to press on and keep on going along the path that He has set for you. Life may have you bowed down on the inside but you are standing strong on the inside in spite of hard times. You know in your heart of hearts that God is bringing you through regardless of how bad things may look in the physical. Start growing a back bone instead of wishing for a wish bone.
