Thank God Always

Give thanks in all circumstances, for that is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

When we find ourselves in tough situations, there is often the tendency to want to give up and give in to defeat. “What’s the point anyway? No-one appreciates all that I do at this job. No-one cares that I am the first one to show up and last to leave every day. I even give up my weekends for these people! Not even a simple pat on the back or a thank you. To make things worse, someone else gets the promotion we think that we deserve. How ungrateful people can be.” We complain when we feel that we are not getting the recognition we think that we deserve. We forget that there are people pounding the pavements more qualified than we are with no jobs. We often focus on what we don’t have rather than thank God for what we do have.

Things don’t always go the way that we expect. We pray continuously for God to intervene in some specific circumstance and nothing changes. You may be praying for a relationship to be healed but things just go from bad to worse. The more you pray, the more the relationship seems to disintegrate. But we cannot afford to be in despair. When we give God our heart, we give him total control of our lives. So when we pray for anything, we have to leave it with him. God always knows why one relationship is healed and another isn’t. He sees things that we cannot see. He may be saving you from more pain than you can ever imagine. We only see a piece of the puzzle but God sees the entire picture. That is why we must be in a constant state of thanksgiving regardless of our circumstances and what we see in the physical. Our job is done once we give it over to God in prayer. We need to learn how to let God be God.

This may be thanksgiving week but we are to give thanks every hour of every day to God Almighty for seeing us worthy that he sacrificed his only precious Son, Jesus Christ so that we can have life – abundant life.
