He Reigns

The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord. - Psalm 146:10

In order to live the kind of life God has for us, He must reign supreme in our lives. He must be the most important person to us – no-one can take the place of God. He must be first and foremost because He is a jealous God. Unfortunately, life gives us all sorts other false “gods” that we can believe in – wealth, health and beauty. We want to look younger and younger as we get older. We want more and more material possessions so unconsciously look for God in all the wrong places.

Some strive for wealth because they are afraid of not having the luxuries of life. They work their fingers to the bone; ignore their families and friends and focus on raking in the dollars. They continue to accumulate more and more; hoping that more will give them the security they desperately crave. For those who are obsessed with beauty and health, they spend every waking moment worrying about growing old. They are in the gym all the time desperately trying to reverse the course of nature. They spend thousands of dollars getting procedure after procedure to fix what isn’t broken but simply aging. They secretly wish they could live forever. Sadly, we all must die one day. Striving for all the things of this world does not give us the abundant life that the Bible promises.

To get the kind of life that God wants for us, He must reign in our lives. Does this mean that we cannot have material things? Not at all but these things cannot be the focus of our lives; God’s work must be the focus of our lives. He must come first when we wake up in the morning, first when we come to a crossroad in our lives and first when there is a decision to be made. Money, health and beauty cannot take the driver’s seat in our lives ever simply because none of these things are eternal, none of them are lasting. Only God promises us eternity.

Are you drowning in the false gods you have chosen to worship? Are you looking for a way out? Do you need a God who will reign in your life, guide you and help you live a fulfilling life? If your answer is yes, give your life to Jesus Christ today – don’t delay as tomorrow is not promised to anyone. Do it today and get the joy and peace you are desperately searching for.
