Hold On; Help is on the Way

Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you. – Psalm 69: 1-5

I know what it feels like to suffer. I understand how life can bring you down to your knees. We go through pain and turmoil either because of mistakes that we make or what other do to us intentionally or unintentionally. I can really identify with how David, the psalmist felt here. You feel like you are really drowning and there is no-one around to save you. Or maybe like it was in my case, people were watching you drown and did absolutely nothing to help. Instead, they persisted in shooting the wounded. Sometimes, it seems like the whole world is caving in around you. You struggle to breathe, your mouth is open and you are taking in air but your lungs have since stopped working. You look around and there is not a soul that you can trust. You have become the talk of the town. Everyone has an opinion on what you should have; could have done to get a different outcome.

Regardless of the cause of your misery, hold on because help is on the way. Reach deep down inside of you and grab the reserve supply of strength that the Holy Spirit has placed within you especially for a time such as this. Don’t give up; never give in. Ignore your critics, their opinion means absolutely nothing. Don’t give in to the myth that what someone did to you to destroy you actually worked. Never let their negativity distract you, people always have something to say. And truth be told, talk will really never go away. Don’t make trying to set people straight your battle because it’s one you will never win. If your pain is your own doing, loose the guilt – it’s not God’s will for you. Start afresh with a vow to do the right think this time. God always has a plan B.

Strengthen your spirit with God’s word. Holding on will require all the strength you can muster so use your energy wisely. Get closer to the Lord and keep your eyes on him and everything will work out perfectly in time.
