The God in Us

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom but on God’s power. – 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

We’ve all heard the famous saying “talk is cheap”. As believers, we can talk until we are blue in the face of the saving power of the Lord, Jesus Christ but until people begin to see a demonstration of that power in us, we are simply wasting our time and resources. It is indeed true that we are saved by grace and not by works but our works must demonstrate our faith.

We cannot claim to have received the wonderful gift of salvation and still live the once reckless and corrupt lives we had when we were in the world. Salvation, if truly received by faith, brings about change because of the amazing power of God that comes packaged with the gift. But when we say that we are saved and we are preaching the gospel, trying to persuade people to give their lives to Christ, is it not expected that our lives display the same gospel we claim to believe in?

It is so possible to know the scripture but be unable to live them. The only way to live what we preach is if God’s power is involved. People are desperate to know God but not by our words but the evidence of His existence in our own personal lives. As believers, we must begin to practice what we preach.
