Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. – Colossians 3:1-2
Based on all that is going on right now with the economy, it is plain to see that we cannot afford to place our hope in the things of this world. If all your hopes and dreams are tied to material wealth, you really do not have much to live for. Stocks crash, housing markets crash and companies file for bankruptcy but God’s economy stays secure forever more.
It is time to place our trust in the God of heaven rather than in the gods of this world. Why? The gods of this world cannot save and cannot guarantee security. Only Almighty God, Jehovah guarantees life, peace, joy and security. Our salvation and eternal inheritance only lies in the hands of God. When we become saved and surrender our lives to God, we are called to set our hearts on things above. God requires from us that we do everything in His Holy Name. We are not to be preoccupied with gathering or acquiring earthly treasures that can all be gone in the blink of an eye. All the things of this world are temporal, God is eternal.
