Show proper respect to everyone; Love for the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. – 1 Peter 2:17
We are called as Christians to love the unlovable but unfortunately we can be the most judgmental. We are great at criticizing others; living with the myth that we are better than they are. We are called to be different for the sake of the gospel but not to veer think of ourselves too highly. We are quick to send money to others to take care of evangelism but we do not want the “sinners” in our midst. We do not want the prostitutes in our church and we definitely don’t want drug addicts teaching Sunday school. But God calls us to respect and honor everyone. Jesus Christ did not come for the righteous – he came to save the unrighteous.
We are commanded to respect everyone – not just people in our church, our family or our denomination; everyone. God’s love is for everyone and He sent his precious Son to die for the sins of the entire world. How do we win others to Christ if we cannot honor and respect them? If we truly fear God, we will do as He has commanded because the fear of God is truly the beginning of all wisdom. We are called to love to have a unique kind of love for our sisters and brothers in Christ. We must stand up for people of faith as we are all part of one family regardless of all the religiosity that divides us.
