Saved By Grace

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved. – Ephesians 2:1-5

I was once living in darkness. Sure, I had given my life to Christ years before but I was a Christian living a life of sin. And before your mind begins to wander, I never did any of those things that the world would frown at as being wrong but I was greatly grieving the Holy Spirit by my attitude, my way of life and my actions. The good news is that even at the time I enjoyed the pleasures of the world; my mind was in great conflict. My desire to satisfy the things of the flesh was in conflict with my desire to succumb to the wishes of the Spirit. I am grateful for all adversities that turned my life around for good. I am now able to see that without God I never would have made it through.

God, in His infinite mercy, is still saving people today; just like He saved me. The message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone – regardless of where you have been or what you have done. No-one is ever too far from the grace of God. His mercy and His grace are available to all of us at anytime. The minute we get to a point that we understand that we cannot make it on our own, God’s house will always be open for us. His arms are our strong fortress. When the wicked world turns us away, God lets us in.
