So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. – James 1:18
I don’t know about you but the fact that I am created in the image of God gives me an awesome feeling. It does not make me equal to God but it tells me that God can do awesome things through me. It makes me feel really special to know that my DNA has been transformed the moment I gave my life over to Him. It gives my life meaning and purpose to know that I am not an afterthought and that God chose me specifically for a purpose.
I know now that I am a reflection of who God is. I am called to be an example in all that I do – the conversations that I have and those that I choose not to have. I am to be a kind of firstfruits of all He created. That means something to me and for the rest of my life; I make a decision to dedicate my life to God. My self image is based on who God says I am not on who the world thinks that I am. To have a low self-esteem as a believer means that we look nothing like our Creator. It is crucial to our existence that we know and understand the image of the God in which we were created. So regardless of where you’ve been and what you’ve been through, never define yourself by who you were; always define yourself by who God is and who He says that you are.
I have found that the material things of this world do not bring me the kind of self image that I need to have. All they do is make me feel good for a short time but they do not give me the healthy self image that God wants for me. How do we develop God’s image in our own lives. To achieve a healthy self image, it is important that we approach the Lord with honesty, accepting that all we have we owe to His grace and that we have no power to save ourselves. We must acknowledge the work that Jesus Christ did on the Cross and surrender our lives to the lordship of Christ.
